Description

Light sculpture in concrete measuring 20 × 20 cm, handcrafted in Madrid.

Mass Model 002 explores the relationship between mass, precision and contained energy through an apparently intact geometric volume traversed by a line of warm light integrated within the body of the piece itself.

Unlike works centered around fracture or erosion, the tension here emerges through containment. The light does not appear as rupture, but as a minimal and controlled presence that tensions the block from within.

Each piece undergoes a complete handcrafted production process that ranges from mold construction to the final assembly of the lighting system, including casting, setting, curing and drying, among other stages.

The edition is limited to a maximum of one hundred numbered units.

Mass, precision and contained light

Mass Model 002 originates from an extremely stable primary geometry.

An orthogonal concrete block constructed from clean surfaces, silent planes and restrained proportions where mass acquires an almost architectural presence.

The intervention is minimal.

A vertical line cuts laterally through the volume, allowing light to emerge from within the object without visually breaking it apart.

The piece does not appear illuminated, but energized from within.

The light does not invade the surface. It remains compressed between the limits of the concrete block, projecting outward only through an opening as precise as the material itself allows.

The result is a constant tension between weight and lightness, opacity and emission, material silence and luminous presence.

Mass Model 002 explores the relationship between architectural volume and contained energy.

The piece is constructed from an extremely stable orthogonal prism where almost no visible sculptural gesture exists. There is no fracture, erosion or apparent deformation. The object presents itself as a silent, compact and controlled mass.

It is precisely this absence of visible intervention that generates tension.

Light emerges through a minimal vertical incision positioned near the edge of the volume. The opening does not destroy the geometry of the block: it activates it.

The luminous line functions almost like an impossible separation between two concrete bodies still contained within a single mass.

The result produces a constant visual contradiction: the block conveys absolute weight while the light introduces a sensation of suspension and dematerialization.

The precision of the vertical line is compositionally important because it introduces a technical and almost digital logic against the mineral behavior of concrete.

The surfaces absorb the light and keep it compressed within the piece, causing the glow to appear only along the limits of the opening and in the lower projection cast onto the supporting surface.

The light does not invade the object. It remains trapped inside it.

There is a direct connection with certain minimalist and architectural languages where void, proportion and the tension between planes become more important than expressive gesture.

However, the mineral presence of the concrete shifts the piece away from a purely minimalist reading and closer to a more physical and tectonic territory.

It is not an abstract form floating in space. It is real mass traversed by energy.

The piece incorporates an integrated identification plate and forms part of a limited edition of one hundred numbered units.
